On behalf of Music Director Josep Caballé-Domenech, the Colorado Springs Philharmonic is pleased to announce that in addition his role as Music Director of the Colorado Springs Philharmonic, Caballé-Domenech has accepted the position as Artistic Director for Orquesta Filarmónica de Bogotá, Columbia.

Caballé-Domenech began his tenure with the Colorado Springs Philharmonic during the 2011-12 Concert Season after an international search was led for the replacement of Lawrence Leighton Smith. In 2016, his contract was renewed indefinitely.
Caballé-Domenech has worked with an impressive list of orchestras, such as the Royal Philharmonic London, with whom he recorded “Respighi’s Roman Trilogy” for Onyx Classics, Tonhalle Orchester Zurich, WDR Cologne, Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Czech Philharmonic, Munich Radio Orchestra, RSO Wien, New Japan Philharmonic, Baltimore, Houston, and Fort Worth Symphony Orchestras among others. Also, audiences can find him conducting summer festivals such as Aspen Music Festival, Texas Music Festival, and Wintergreen Festival.
Recognized for his work with operatic repertoire, he made his debut at the Gran Teatre de Liceau at Barcelona and led the company also in guest productions at the Savolinna Festival and at La Fenice Venice. Subsequently, he was invited by further European opera companies, including State Opera Stuttgart, Vienna’s Volksoper (new production of Tosca, among others), Theater an der Wien (with P. Domingo), Essen Aalto Theater, Capitol de Toulouse, Teatro San Carlo Lisbon, Bilbao Opera House, and Komische Oper Berlin.
Born in Barcelona into a family of musicians, Caballé-Domenech studied piano, percussion, singing and violin. He took conducting lessons with David Zinman and Jorma Panula at the Aspen Music Festival, Sergiu Comissiona, and at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. He was awarded the Aspen Prize from the American Academy of Conducting at Aspen and selected as “Protégé” in the inaugural cycle of the Sir Colin Davis Rolex Mentor and Protégé Arts Initiative 2002-03.
The Colorado Springs Philharmonic announced its 2017-18 concert season featuring “The Best of All Possible Worlds: Bernstein at 100.” The most celebrated musician of his time, Leonard Bernstein (1918-1990) dedicated his life and career to the joy of music and the elevation of humanity. In his centennial year, the Colorado Springs Philharmonic will follow his footsteps, making music and proclaiming the power of creativity to overcome intolerance.
