Susan Kerbs Townsend

Susan Kerbs Townsend has been the piccoloist with the Colorado Springs Philharmonic since moving to Colorado and winning the position in 2005. She also performs regularly as a substitute with the Colorado Symphony and Opera Colorado.

Before moving to Colorado, Ms. Townsend had an active freelancing career, playing with the Houston Symphony, Houston Ballet Orchestra, and Houston Grand Opera among others while teaching lots of flute lessons to middle and high school students. She participated in the Round Top Texas Festival Orchestra and National Repertory Orchestra in Breckenridge, CO during a few graduate school summers.

Ms. Townsend holds degrees in Flute Performance from Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida (B.M.) and Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music in Houston, Texas (M.M. and D.M.A.). Her teachers include Gale Coffee, Warren Little, Charles Delaney, Aralee Dorough, Carol Wincenc, Anne Diener Zentner and Walfrid Kujala.

Susan, a native of Edmonds, Washington, lives in Parker, Colorado with her husband, son, and 2 cats.
