The Colorado Springs Philharmonic’s Top Gun Pops Concert soared beyond the music with an exciting partnership from the United States Air Force Academy (USAFA). At both performances, the Cool Science booth drew crowds—sometimes six deep—as patrons of all ages explored hands‑on experiments in air speed, lift, and pressure.
USAFA cadets, organized by our favorite cadet, Kobe Achu, also attended the concert—making use of our discounted $20 college student ticket rate—with freshmen proudly wearing their jumpsuits.
At the heart of the experience was Stacey Lazzelle, USAFA STEM Director, whose vision and leadership brought science to life for concertgoers. Alongside colleague Kaitlin Poole from the Physics Department, Lazzelle designed interactive demonstrations that connected the thrill of flight to the excitement of music. Her work ensured that audiences didn’t just watch a concert—they discovered the science behind the skies.
We’re thrilled to announce USAFA will return with more Cool Science at upcoming Pops concerts: Jurassic Park and Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back.
