Philharmonic at Air Academy: Chloe Dufresne Inspires Students

The Center for Future Audiences and the Colorado Springs Philharmonic recently navigated some unique logistics to bring world-class music to the classroom. Specifically, Maestra ChloĆ© Dufresne jumped through several security “hoops” to reach the Air Force Academy base and mentor forty members of the Air Academy High School Chamber Singers. This high-energy “Conductor in the Classroom” session provided an unforgettable morning for these advanced vocalists.

To begin the rehearsal, ChloĆ© guided the students through the technical intricacies of Bogoroditse Devo. She even took to the piano to help them master specific sections, pushing the group toward professional-level precision. Furthermore, the session took a theatrical turn with Fire by Katerina Gimon. This piece features “bursts of gibberish” that ChloĆ© helped the students bring to life with playful intensity. Choir Director Tanner Jones noted that Chloé’s specific feedback was exactly what the group needed to prepare for their upcoming state contest.

The impact of the visit was best summed up by one enthusiastic senior. “I am a senior and this was one of the first times I’ve actually wanted to get to school 2nd semester!” they remarked. “ChloĆ© taught us with such energy and she’s pretty funny, too.” This combination of humor and artistry ensured that the forty students remained engaged and inspired throughout the challenging rehearsal.

Notably, the event held a personal connection for the Colorado Springs Philharmonic leadership. Both Joye Levy, Director of the Center for Future Audiences, and CEO Nathan Newbrough have children in this ensemble. Additionally, the visit served as a great lead-in for the D20 Choir Festival coming this November. Ultimately, we were thrilled to see these students excel, and we look forward to welcoming them to the Pikes Peak Center stage soon.

The July 4th Star Spangled Symphony Performance has been postponed. Please check the event page for additional information.
