Centering Students Through Creative Professional Development

The Center for Future Audiences concluded its third Professional Development session with 11 instrumental and choral music educators from Harrison School District 2, hosted at the new home of the Colorado Springs Conservatory.

Teachers began the morning with a tour of the Conservatory’s spaces before gathering in the audio control room for an interactive session on Chrome Music Lab led by Dr. Andy. Together, they explored tools like Spectrogram, Arpeggios, Voice Spinner, Oscillators, and Song Maker — sharing practical ideas for composition, music theory, and creative classroom projects. Teachers exchanged stories of students writing video game themes, translating digital rhythms into notation, and eagerly using the platform even during free time.

Later, Tracey guided a collaborative tableau activity inspired by visual art, inviting teachers to imagine scenes before or after a painting. The exercise sparked thoughtful discussion, teamwork, and creativity, with a simple encouragement: “Have fun with it and get creative.”

The session concluded with open conversation about current partnerships and future possibilities, always centered on what will best serve students. The final hour was dedicated to collaboration — giving educators time and space to plan, connect, and strengthen music learning across their schools.

The July 4th Star Spangled Symphony Performance has been postponed. Please check the event page for additional information.
