Volunteer Spotlight: Jourdan Jackson

Our volunteers are the cornerstone of our operations. Their dedication goes beyond just donating time and energy; they pour their hearts and souls into supporting our mission. We are especially grateful to all our volunteers, and today, we want to spotlight a very special member of our team, Jourdan Jackson.

  1. Can you share a bit about yourself and what inspired you to volunteer with the Colorado Springs Philharmonic?

I am born and raised in Colorado Springs! I have always felt a deep appreciation for the very special culture of this city. I was looking for inspiration after I had moved back to COS from Minneapolis in 2019, and figured I’d go back to my music-loving roots and explore some volunteer opportunities with the Philharmonic. I grew up playing violin and had day-dreamt of being a professional musician someday but am very happy with volunteering my time and being around such talented and passionate people.

  1. What has been your most memorable moment while volunteering with the Philharmonic?

My most memorable moment while volunteering was probably the Celtic concert from a couple years ago. It was the first concert I volunteered for after the big lockdown was finally lifted, and I had an INCREDIBLE time. I spent the next week listening solely to Irish folk music and fantasizing of moving to the Irish countryside.

  1. What are some things you do as a volunteer that people might be surprised to learn about?

Being a volunteer allows for you to see the “guts” of the Pikes Peak Center. I love being able to go backstage and sneak a glance at all the preparation that goes into the larger productions like the Nutcracker or some of the Pops performances!

  1. What advice would you give someone thinking about volunteering in the arts?

Don’t hesitate, and just reach out to get started! We are always looking for people who love the arts and want to get involved. It can seem intimidating sometimes, but honestly – the culture is so great and the people are beyond friendly. You can meet some great folks who share your same interests.

  1. How do you think the Philharmonic enriches the Colorado Springs community?

It keeps a very special tradition and atmosphere alive in the community. People from every part of the city come to these concerts and I just love seeing the diversity that these concerts attract. I think the Philharmonic does a fantastic job at scheduling concerts that make everyone feel included and seen.

  1. Are there any upcoming events or programs at the Philharmonic that you are particularly excited about?

I am always looking forward to the live scores being played alongside a movie. I have never seen any of the Star Wars films, so I’m very much looking forward to seeing that one!
