Chloé Dufresne Inspires the Next Generation with CSYSA

On her very first day as Music Director of the Colorado Springs Philharmonic, Chloé Dufresne made a meaningful stop at the Colorado Springs Youth Symphony Association (CSYSA) as part of the Philharmonic’s Center for Future Audiences initiative. Through the Conductor in the Classroom program—a free offering available to nonprofit music education groups and schools across the Pikes Peak Region—Chloé connected directly with young musicians in a powerful and personal way.

She led the students in a stirring rehearsal of A Night on Bald Mountain by Mussorgsky, guiding both full ensemble and sectional work. Her focus on musical atmosphere and emotional expression resonated deeply, and the students responded with enthusiasm and curiosity. The rehearsal was not only musically enriching but also emotionally uplifting, as Chloé emphasized how the music should feel and the story it should tell.

To mark the occasion, Gary Nicholson and Deborah Liles from CSYSA joined their board members and key donors in a celebratory toast—champagne and sparkling apple juice—welcoming Chloé and expressing their excitement for future collaborations.

Looking ahead, CSYSA will join the Philharmonic in a side-by-side performance during the upcoming Philharmonic Kids concerts in February, featuring Peter and the Wolf and WolfTracks. This partnership promises to be a highlight of the season, showcasing the power of mentorship and musical growth.
