A Night of Music, Mindfulness, and Community: Beethoven Meets Mental Health

The Colorado Springs Philharmonic’s Masterworks Beethoven 5 Concert was more than a celebration of one of the most iconic symphonies ever written—it was a powerful evening dedicated to mental health and community connection. In partnership with The Positivity Project, Centro de la Familia, TESSA, and Ormao Dance Company, the event brought together music lovers and advocates for well-being under the banner of the Center for Future Audiences.

From the very start, the tone was set for something special. Philharmonic President & CEO Nathan Newbrough invited the audience to take a deep breath and say “Yes” to the music and the talented musicians on stage—a simple gesture that resonated deeply throughout the hall.

The evening was filled with meaningful conversations. Meg Fredrick, Executive Director of The Positivity Project, shared that the night was “so full of good and important conversations and connections” that she returned to the lobby during Sunday’s matinee to continue engaging with patrons.

As the final notes of Beethoven’s Fifth faded, the night held one more surprise: a “Nightcap” experience in Studio Bee. Over 150 patrons joined Ormao Dance Company and TESSA for a moving presentation of their Hands Are For Holding school program, which promotes healthy relationships through dance and dialogue. Despite facing a flood in Ormao’s studios just days before, Executive Director Jan Johnson made it to the performance—an inspiring testament to the dedication of our community partners.

We are truly fortunate to collaborate with organizations so committed to creating and working together. Thank you to all our partners for making this evening unforgettable!

What’s Next? The collaboration continues! Centro de la Familia will return to assist with Spanish translation for students from Atlas Prep Community School during our Nutcracker for a Day program over Thanksgiving weekend. We can’t wait to welcome these young learners into the magic of music and dance.

The July 4th Star Spangled Symphony Performance has been postponed. Please check the event page for additional information.
