Honoring a Legacy: The Impact of
Josep CaballĂ©–Domenech
Honoring a Legacy, Inspiring the Future
On April 26, the Philharmonic lit up the stage—and the city—with a powerful celebration of music and legacy. The occasion: a tribute to Conductor Laureate Josep CaballĂ©-Domenech, whose passion, vision, and artistry have shaped our orchestra and inspired our community for more than a decade.Â
In a program marked by both brilliance and heart, Yekwon Sunwoo, gold medalist of the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, delivered a breathtaking performance of Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2. His extraordinary interpretation—equal parts power and poetry—brought the audience to its feet and set the tone for an unforgettable evening.Â
The night’s most heartwarming moment came as 70 Philharmonic musicians sat side-by-side with the Colorado Springs Youth Symphony for Mahler’s Symphony No. 1. Together more than 145 musicians filled the room with music, mentorship, and mutual admiration.Â
The evening culminated with a stunning gala party at the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Museum, where glasses were lifted to Josep CaballĂ©-Domenech. Friends, musicians, and supporters gathered in celebration of his visionary leadership, joyful spirit, and extraordinary contributions to the Philharmonic.Â
It was more than a concert—it was a milestone. A night that honored the past, ignited the present, and inspired the future.
