Jeremy Nicholas

Colorado Springs Philharmonic double bassist, Jeremy Nicholas discovered a talent for playing double bass at age 12 and soon after joined the Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra. After an inspiring summer in Michigan at the Interlochen Music Academy, he decided to pursue music for life and hasn’t looked back since. He began studying privately with Laura Snyder of the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra and won positions in both the Kenosha Symphony and the Racine Symphony before graduating High School.

Mr. Nicholas attended Illinois Wesleyan University and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Music Performance. While there, he won his first Principal Chair position with the Heartland Philharmonic. He then moved to Colorado in 2001 to study with Paul Erhard at the University of Colorado and earned his Masters in Music Performance in 2004.

Before finishing his Masters, Mr. Nicholas won the Principal Chair positions of both the Cheyenne Symphony Orchestra and the St. Mary’s Baroque Chamber Orchestra and began regularly subbing with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra. In 2004, he earned a spot with the Greeley Philharmonic and then in 2005 joined both the Colorado Springs Philharmonic and became the Principal Double Bassist of the Fort Collins Symphony Orchestra.

Mr. Nicholas is also actively teaching private lessons and performing recitals in the Denver area. Three years ago he discovered a love for bluegrass and enjoys getting together with his band “Crabgrass.” He currently lives in Edgewater with his wife Carrie and astonishingly adorable 2-year-old son Kason, who unlike his father, has started playing bass at a very early age.
