Masterworks

Scheherazade

September 26-27
Pikes Peak Center for the Performing Arts

About the Performance

NOTICE: The Sunday (9/27) performance begins at 1:00pm.

Our Centennial Season begins with pieces of rich lyricism, fairy-tale wonders, and a virtuosic composition from our very first composer-in-residence, Eunike Tanzil. Hear the orchestra build from a whisper to a roar in Tanzil’s one-movement Ascending Creatures, inspired by a flock of birds in flight. Then, Beethoven’s poetically quiet Piano Concerto No. 4 that highlights enchanting exchanges between soloist Jean-Baptiste Doulect and the orchestra. Lastly, Rimsky-Korsakov’s legendary Scheherazade presents a gripping symphonic battle of wits, stormy seas, and fairy talks where a brave queen fights for her life using the power of storytelling.

Join us for Colorado Springs Philharmonic Pre-Concert talks. Go behind the curtain and inside the score with these 30-minute pre-concert conversations one hour before the concert starts.
