Thomas has an extensive catalog of compositions and arrangements that have been performed around the world, unlocking new performance opportunities for orchestras and artists and making him an in-demand orchestrator and arranger. As Associate Conductor of the Colorado Springs Philharmonic, Thomas conducts nearly half the season in Pops, Classical and educational concerts, playing in the trumpet section when he is not conducting.
As Music Director of the Chamber Orchestra of the Springs, Thomas has made it one of the most vibrant chamber orchestras in the country, with an expansive season of diverse programming that has won accolades from leading foundations, including the NEA. Under his leadership, the Chamber Orchestra weathered the pandemic extremely well.
Thomas is a strong advocate for music education. He conducted for the Colorado Springs Youth Symphony program and founded the Young Concert Artists orchestra, and is an active guest conductor and clinician for school and honor orchestras. He teaches at Colorado College and Colorado Springs Conservatory.
Thomas has led countless projects in dance, opera, theater, film, and virtually every genre of music. His recent performances of the opera Blind Injustice with Opera Theatre of the Rockies illustrate his dedication to making the arts relevant to our time.
Thomas holds a bachelor’s degree in Music Education from the University of Northern Colorado, where he graduated summa cum laude and received the School of Music’s highest honor—the Departmental Scholar Award. He has a master’s degree in Conducting from Colorado State University, and has supplemented his education by studying with leading conducting mentors like Lawrence Leighton Smith, Gustav Meier and Michael Tilson Thomas, who called him “someone to watch.” In his free time, Thomas finds happiness in friends, fitness, and learning. He is a voracious reader, a chess player, and is always happiest on Colorado trails with his adorable dog, Maynard.
Josh Franklin is an accomplished Broadway performer, singer songwriter and composer/lyricist/book writer. As a writer, Josh has written, recorded and co-produced two solo albums, his self-titled debut pop album in 2012 and “Spent” released in 2016. He was the composer/lyricist for the musical, “Royal Blood” an original hip hop Vampire musical comedy based on actual events that took place in 18th century France. “Jack: A Moral Musical Tale” was co-written with Linda Weiss in conjunction with the Colorado Springs Conservatory. His original musical, “The Consoling Mechanism”, a story about a girl struggling with her new reality of life in a wheelchair, will have its world premiere in 2021 at Virginia Rep. As an actor, his Broadway credits include The
Prom, Anything Goes, Ghost, Legally Blonde and Grease.
Regionally, he’s performed with The Stratford Festival, Goodspeed Opera House, The Alliance Theater, St. Louis Rep and others. He received wide recognition for his first national tour roles as Bob Gaudio (Jersey Boys), Danny Zuko (Grease), Chad (All Shook Up), and Billy Crocker (Anything Goes) which garnered him a Helen Hayes Award nomination for best actor in a leading role.
Zachary Janzen’s vocal abilities have garnered acclaim across Colorado Springs and beyond. Having breathed life into memorable characters such as Tom Collins in “Rent” and Jim Conley in “Parade,” Janzen’s stage presence is marked
by versatility and a commanding presence. Singing alongside a full orchestra fulfills a lifelong dream, fueling his aspiration to share his gift on global stages and foster connections through the universal language of music. In the bustling heart of downtown Colorado Springs, experience Janzen’s captivating performances as Icons’ resident singing bartender.
Leo Nova-Wolfe is thrilled to take the stage once again with the incredible COS Philharmonic for New Year’s Eve. A graduate of West Liberty and Pace University, he worked for Norwegian Cruise Lines as a singer/dancer and vocal captain pre-pandemic. Currently, he sings (and bartends) just down the street at the award-winning LGBTQIA+ piano bar Icons-CO. He also sings on the frontline of the all-star SoulX wedding band through Starkey Entertainment, coordinates weddings and events through Dreamcatcher Weddings, and returned to his theatrical roots in Dreamgirls at Lone Tree Arts Center this past fall.
Anne Terze-Schwarz is a Colorado native who has been performing since she was nine years old. A proud alum of the Colorado Springs Children’s Chorale where she sang professionally for 9 1/2 years, she went on to study musical theatre at the University of Northern Colorado and has since performed all across the region. Previous favorite shows include; Ragtime, Rock of Ages, Miss Saigon, I love you, You’re Perfect, Now Change, Sweeney Todd and Take to The Highway (A concert conversation of the music of James Taylor and Carole King). After living in New York for a bit, she recently has returned from her second contract with Norwegian Cruise lines, as well as the first national tour of Motones & Jerseys as the MC.
